The waters around Nea Peramos are home to thriving Posidonia oceanica meadows — a unique seagrass found only in the Mediterranean. Some meadows are up to 80,000 years old, making them among the oldest living organisms on Earth. They produce oxygen, store carbon, protect coastlines, and host hundreds of marine species. Yet they grow just 1 cm per year — a single anchor can cause damage that takes decades to recover.
